The Hungry Cities Partnership (HCP), African Food Security Urban Network (AFSUN) and the Consuming Urban Poverties (CUP) research projects convened a workshop entitled Joining the Sustainable Development Goals: Urbanization and Food Security in the Global South in July 2016 at the Balsillie School of International Affairs in Waterloo, Canada. Researchers presented thoughtful and insightful findings on the levels of food insecurity in cities of the global South and structural factors that influences access to food security for urban residents. In addition to local academics and graduate students from Wilfrid Laurier University and the University of Waterloo, participants also included academics from Bangalore, India; Cape Town, South Africa; Kingston, Jamaica; Maputo, Mozambique; Mexico City, Mexico; Nairobi, Kenya; and Nanjing, China.
