The Hungry Cities Partnership Report No. 3, The Urban Food System of Cape Town, South Africa, was just posted to the HCP website. It was co-authored by Gareth Haysom, Jonathan Crush and Mary Caesar. In addition to an overview of the demographic, economic and socio-political backgrounds of Cape Town, the report also provides a systematic elaboration on the various aspects of Cape Town’s urban food system. These include the sources of food and food flows, urban agriculture, food processing and retailing, as well as the level of household food security and its determinants. It highlights the contributions that the HCP household food security survey will make to the existing knowledge of Cape Town’s urban food system and beyond.
