HCP Report on Cape Town cited by The Guardian newspaper in an article entitled “Is South Africa’s Most Fertile Farmland Under Threat from Developers?” The newspaper’s series on Cities discusses the struggle between developers and local farmers and NGOs over land use in the Philippi Horticultural Area which supplies the city’s poor with cheap vegetables. The article refers to HCP’s findings about gross inequities in food security in the city arising that are documented in HCP Report No 12: The State of Household Food Security in Cape Town, South Africa by Jonathan Crush, Mary Caesar and Gareth Haysom.
