QES-AS PROGRAM
Project Description
The Hungry Cities Partnership (HCP) at Wilfrid Laurier University (WLU) and the Balsillie School of International Affairs, together with the University of Waterloo and partners in China, India, Jamaica, Kenya, Malawi, Mexico, Mozambique, Namibia, South Africa and Zimbabwe is one of 23 successful QES-Advanced Scholars proposals. The QES-AS program will allow the HCP to build institutional capacity and new global scholars and leaders with expertise in urbanization, urban food systems, urban governance and informality.
The HCP brings together partners from Canada and the Global South to collaboratively address the food security challenge of rapid urbanization in Africa, Asia and the Caribbean. The Partnership currently operates in Nanjing, China; Bangalore, India; Nairobi, Kenya; Kingston, Jamaica; Maputo, Mozambique; and Cape Town, South Africa; Harare, Zimbabwe; Windhoek, Namibia and Mzuzu, Malawi.
The HCP aims to build a policy-oriented knowledge platform to positively impact the regulatory environment governing urban food systems in partner cities as well as influence the emerging global development agendas on urbanization, food security and poverty alleviation.
