Samuel Owuor
Samuel Owuor is an urban geographer and Associate Professor of Geography and Environmental Studies in the Department of Geography, Population and Environmental Studies, University of Nairobi, Kenya. He holds a PhD in Human Geography from University of Amsterdam. He has, over the years, gained experience in scientific research and publication, teaching and supervision of graduate students. His research interests are in the fields of urban development and governance, urban poverty and livelihoods, urban food and nutrition security, and urban-rural linkages. He has been involved in the design and implementation of a number of funded collaborative and multi-disciplinary research projects. In particular, he has participated in Hungry Cities Partnership Project on informality, inclusive growth and food security in cities of the global south; Nourishing Spaces Project on urban food systems governance for non-communicable diseases prevention; and AgriFoSe2030 Project on urban food systems governance in Kenya.
Stellah Mukhovi
Stellah Mukhovi is a post-doctoral scholar and Senior Lecturer in the Department of Geography, Population and Environmental Studies, University of Nairobi, Kenya. She is a human geographer with a PhD from the University of Nairobi. She is a mentor with Food Systems Research Network-Africa (FSNet-Africa), and Association for Environmental Studies and Sciences (AESS). Her research focuses on food security, gender issues, food systems, resilience, food sustainability, rural-urban linkages, livelihoods, and right to food. Her post-doctoral research on food systems resilience and local food system sustainable transformation is funded by Swiss National Science Foundation (SNF) and Swiss Programme for Research on Global Issues for Development. In addition, she is interested on how research contributes to transformation at community and policy levels. While her research activities are multidisciplinary, she has a strong belief in transdisciplinary approach where scientists work with societal actors to create sustainable solutions in food systems.
Teresa Wanjiro Mbatia
Dr. Teresa Mbatia is a Lecturer in the Department of Geography, Population and Environmental Studies, University of Nairobi, Kenya. She holds a PhD in Human Geography from Université Bordeaux Montaigne, France, and Master of Arts (Planning) from University of Nairobi. She has research interests on public participation in planning and management of public open spaces and infrastructure. Through various publications and conferences, she contributes to discourses on just public spaces and right to the city. Her doctoral thesis focused on analyzing the social and political subtleties of citizen participation in the management and conservation of public greenspaces and implications on spatial (in)justice. She has participated, in various capacities, in a wide range of transdisciplinary and multi-disciplinary collaborative research projects with partners from local to international scales.
Kathleen Anangwe
Kathleen Anangwe is a Lecturer in the Department of Sociology, Social Work and Women's Studies at the University of Nairobi, Kenya. She is a development sociologist whose area of research and interest includes social inequalities, particularly relating to gender disparities and nutrition gaps within families and communities; and urban food systems as outcomes of social stratification and globalization. Her other interests include women's rights, collective behaviour and social movements as activism. She is a member of the Bioethics Society of Kenya and the International Sociological Association (ISA).
Veronica Mwangi
Veronica Mwangi is a Tutorial Fellow at the Department of Geography, Population and Environmental Studies, University of Nairobi, Kenya. Her research interests are in the areas of food systems and food value chains, rural and urban systems, food security and poverty. She holds a PhD in Economic Geography from the University of Nairobi. She held research fellowships at the Center for Development Research (ZEF) Bonn; and at the University of the Fraser Valley as a Queen Elizabeth Scholar. Veronica has worked as a PhD researcher in a multidisciplinary project on food systems in Kenya and Bolivia. Her thesis focused on analyzing agro-food value chains and their effect on food security and poverty among participating producers. She has authored and co-authored five peer-reviewed articles.
John Oredo
John Otieno Oredo is a Lecturer in the Departments of Information Science and Management Science at the University of Nairobi, Kenya. He was previously a Research Associate at Kenya Education Network (KENET). He holds a PhD in Business Administration (Strategic Information Systems) from University of Nairobi and MSc in IT from Strathmore University. John is trained in scientific communication and publishing, data analytics, research methods, information systems, e-learning course design (ETSU, PASGR), faculty support in online course development (EDUCAUSE), pedagogical leadership (PASGR), and supply chain resilience (Kuhne Logistics). He is a certified Project Management Professional (PMP), Big Data Engineer (IBM) and Artificial Intelligence Analyst (IBM). John has published and reviewed for refereed journals in Information Systems (IS) and serves as a Senior Editor for the Information Technology & People. In addition, John is an active member of ISACA, INFORMS, PMI, and AIS (President, East African Chapter).
