Kathleen Anangwe

Kathleen Anangwe is a Lecturer in the Department of Sociology, Social Work and Women’s Studies at the University of Nairobi, Kenya. She is a development sociologist whose area of research and interest includes social inequalities, particularly relating to gender disparities and nutrition gaps within families and communities; and urban food systems as outcomes of social stratification and globalization. Her other interests include women’s rights, collective behaviour and social movements as activism. She is a member of the Bioethics Society of Kenya and the International Sociological Association (ISA).

The Hungry Cities Partnership (HCP) is an international network of cities and city-based partner organizations which focuses on the relationships between rapid urbanization, informality, migration and urban food systems in the Global South. The HCP aims to provide solutions to the challenge of building sustainable cities, policies and programs that promote food security in cities. The HCP currently operates in Jamaica, Mexico, Ecuador, Qatar, China, India, Singapore, Kenya, Ghana, Namibia, Mozambique and South Africa.
